This Week’s Comics Haul

Oof, last week’s reprieve was only temporary.  Here’s what I picked up this week.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual #39 -Remember when annuals was synonomous with rushed out garbage aimed at collecting a fast $2/$3 trading, featuring terrible stories and worse art?  Clearly I don’t because I bought THREE this week. That’s what happens when you’re an adult with disposable income.

Animal Man Annual #01 – See above.  Also, please be good.

Batman Annual #01 – See above.  Also, please be good.

ViciousPjuraHead’s “My ADD Prevents Me From Reading More Than 2 Comics At A Time” picks of the week!

Astonishing X-Men #50 – All this talk about Northstar getting married is making this one a must own. Who’s your pick to interrupt the wedding and spill the beans on the Northstar’s infidelities?

Batman Incorporated #1 – Grant Morrison has been on my I love his books/I don’t understand his books list for a while. Time will tell which category this falls into.

A MMORPG Possibly Worth Playing: Marvel Heroes

Done in what looks like the style of the X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, Gazillion’s MMO Marvel Heroes gets a few glimpses of gameplay alongside long shots of Dr. Doom with a Cosmic Cube.

This looks like an MMO I could finally get into playing.  City of Heroes was too generic and, despite having one of THE BEST CGI intro’s for a game ever, I just couldn’t bother getting interested in DC Universe Online.  Mostly due to my hatred of everything DC pre-new 52 / non-Vertigo.  I also had no interest in paying a monthly fee for a game that I would probably only be playing periodically.

Marvel Heroes though looks like it’s right in the sweet spot. From what I could gather from the trailer, the art & gameplay are right in the realm of those earlier Marvel games.  I played through X-Men Legends twice on my PS2, then bought a PSP so I could play the portable version and check out all the extra characters  (including Cable, Nate Gray & Dark Phoenix). It even got to the point where, after I got dumped by my then-girlfriend, my first thought was, “Good, now I can play more X-Men Legends.” Priorities, people.

This definitely looks like a game to keep an eye on; even though there’s no kind of dates anywhere for a beta, a demo or a release, I’m sure that information will start leaking out once the summer conventions get into full swing.
