Sony’s Latest Guessing Game

Sony just dropped this banner on all the major social networking sites. Here are my guesses as to what it could mean.

1) Orbis, also knows as the PS4

2) Finally putting the PSP to bed

3) Finally putting the PSVita to bed

4) Announcing a worthy sequel to Monster Madness: Grave Danger

5) A Star Wars: Force Unleashed/Shadows of the Damned crossover.

But it’s probably the Orbis announcement.

Robot Chicken Shills for Playstation All-Stars; I In Turn Shill For Both **UPDATED**

This doesn’t make me want a PS Vita any more, but it doesn’t make me want one any less, either. What it definitely does though, is not make me want to play Playstation All-Stars. I may be the only person who never really cared for Super Smash Bros. and that game actually has a deep roster of interesting characters and IP.  PAS isn’t even trying to hide the fact it’s a rip off; the shallow talent roster doesn’t help either. Anyone played it? What did you think?

** UPDATE 11/27/12 2:22PM –  Apparently NO ONE wants a PS Vita.  What a shame.

Trailer Park, E3 Edition: The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Assassin’s Creed III’s Naval Battles, Star Wars 1313

The Last of Us – Naughty Dog’s follow up to the Uncharted series. One word: gorgeous. Beware, salty language. I can’t wait to quit my job and just play this game.

Beyond: Two Souls – From the makers of Heavy Rain, which if you haven’t played, take a chance on a new style of game and pick! it! up! Think interactive Se7en with a slowly unfolding story that can unfold in any number of ways.  Seriously, so good.

Assassin’s Creed’s  taking the stabbing to a new location and a non-terrible Star Wars game after the jump!

My Listory

A brief listing of the systems I’ve owned with a few of the first/memorable games I owned alongside them:

Gaming system of uknown origin (facts: early ‘80’s; wood stock light rifle as a peripheral, strange math game involving crocodiles & apples)

NES – first games were Super Mario Bros. (natch), Kung-FU & Baseball.  Fourth game was the Legend of Kage. Mystifyingly frustrating or furstratingly mysterious?

Game Boy – Tetris! Spider-Man! Some NBA game (strange, as I was an avid proponent of avoiding all outdoor activities).

Sega Genesis – My brothers. ALtered Beast and Sonic passed the time but didn’t really do it for me.

Super NES – For my money, the best Super Mario Bros AND Legend of Zelda games ever were Super Mario World & The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I grapple hooked the shit out of chickens. Just terrorized them. Devoted roughly 10,000 hours to playing Street FIghter II and Super Street FIghter II.

Game Gear – Won this in a television contest utilizing epic-level parental manipulation & VCR programming skills. A post on this later.

Playstation – NOW we’re talking. Took this with me to college and got tremendous mileage out it with games like Tekken 3, Twisted Metal, NFL Blitz, Hot Shots Golf…until Final Fantasy 7 ate the better part of my sophomore year and I was asked to take..a break from school, shall we say. (I still graduated on time, so no worries). Also, I clearly didn’t learn my lesson as Final Fantasy 8 consumed part of my junior year.  Had my Mom ship it to me in Japan along with a copy of Castlevania:SOTN, then sold it to a Canadian when I left.

Playstation 2 – Bought the day of the New York City (well, entire Northeast)Blackout of 2003 and had to drag it and Virtua Fighter 5 back to Queens from Union Square. Tortutous not to be able to play it until the next day when the power came back on.  Tremendous amount of games purchased for this, but the standouts were really God of War, Final Fantasy XII, Devil May Cry 3, Metal Gear Solid 3 and X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse.

PSP (piano black) – Purchased with points earned from some sort of contest/promotion at my job at the time.  Played X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse on this as well so I could play as Cable. Caused a break-up.

Nintendo DS Lite (White) – Bought primarily for New Super Mario Bros. (So fun!) and Mario Kart; ended up playing a staggering amount of Puzzle Quest. Sold and bought a Nintendo DS Lite (red & black) – I still don’t know why I did this.

Playstation 3 – Bought one of the final 160Gb fat PS3’s (With backward compatability!).  Resistance: Fall of Man got me back in FPS; Burnout:Paradise got me into driving games; Warhawk got me into flying games. Street Fighter IV,Grand Theft Auto 4,  Metal Gear Solid IV, Call of Duty 4…for the most part, I remember (hell, still am) amazed by almost every game I purchase and play for the PS3.

PSP (silver) – acquired amongst a spending spree. Wanted to play God of War: Ghost of Sparta and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. At the time I also had a DSLite & PS3; this rarely got played and ended up selling it after buying and failing to comprehend FInal Fantasy: Crisis Core.

iPhone – This counts! Lot of Puzzle Quest and Poker.

iPad – This counts too! Fruit Ninja, Infinity Blade I & II, Poker…

SO! Those are my systems; definitely skews Nintendo & Sony and veers from Sega & Microsoft.  Still, never felt like I was missing anything. Maybe some Phantasy Star here, some Gears of War there, but overall, think it’s fairly comprehensive.
